NEW YORK, NY (JUNE 2026)Chenzi, a New York City-based food brand founded by siblings Christina and Bryan Chen, is officially launching what is believed to be the first commercially sold Chinese potato ball, a traditional dish from the Changle region of Fuzhou, China.

Best described as a love child between a dumpling and mochi, Chinese potato balls feature a soft, bouncy outer shell made from potato-based dough wrapped around a savory filling. Chenzi currently offers three naturally gluten-free varieties: pork, chicken, and veggie (which also happen to be vegan).

Chenzi was born when founder Christina Chen moved to Singapore several years ago and found herself craving the comfort dishes she grew up with. Recipes that were never written down, passed only through practice and memory within family kitchens. Recognizing that these traditions risked disappearing alongside older generations, she returned to New York and partnered with her brother Bryan to build a brand centered around preservation.

Alongside a growing list of independent grocers carrying Chenzi, the brand has built early traction through pop-ups and local partnerships across New York City, including a season-long appearance at Smorgasburg Williamsburg and Prospect Park in Brooklyn. Chenzi will make its major national trade debut at the 2026 Summer Fancy Food Show.
