Startup CPG Newswire:
UMAMI GRANOLA Makes Its Retail Debut
PRESS RELEASE — NEWS PROVIDED BY Cindy Lam for UMAMI GRANOLA
NEW YORK, NY (AUGUST 2026) — UMAMI GRANOLA, the first Cantonese breakfast granola, launched direct-to-consumer in May 2026. The brand has since expanded into retail within three months, as savory breakfast menu listings grow 18.5% year over year, according to Tastewise. Its Dau-Si-Do blend, savory umami carrying fermented black soybeans, hoisin, and fresh ginger from Cantonese dim sum tradition, meets this demand directly.
Dau-Si-Do now sits on the shelf at Pearl River Mart Foods in Chelsea Market, New York City, joined by its sweet blend, Dragon-Eyed Wolf, floral sweetness carrying goji berries, longan, and condensed milk from Cantonese tong sui tradition. Pearl River Mart opened in Manhattan’s Chinatown in 1971, founded by Taiwanese immigrants Ming Yi and Ching Yeh Chen as a “friendship store” introducing Chinese culture broadly to New York. More than fifty years later, UMAMI GRANOLA brings a similarly specific tradition to the same shelves.
Both blends have also found a second home on Here Here Market, an online marketplace connecting shoppers with small-batch food brands across the country, including a curated roster of traditional and specialty food brands from independent makers.
“Retail expansion matters because it puts our dim sum and tong sui granola blends in front of more people. These are specific Cantonese traditions, and this specificity is what UMAMI GRANOLA carries forward,” said Cindy Lam, Founder of UMAMI GRANOLA.
UMAMI GRANOLA is available in-store and online at Pearl River Mart Foods, on Here Here Market, and at umamigranola.com.
