Barilla Selects Sunday Supper for Good Food Makers 2026 Program
PRESS RELEASE — NEWS PROVIDED BY Richard Klein for SUNDAY SUPPER
LOS ANGELES, CA (OCTOBER 2026) — Sunday Supper, the rapidly growing premium Italian frozen food brand, has been selected by Barilla Group as the winner of its Redefining Everyday Meals innovation challenge.
Part of Barilla’s Good Food Makers 2026 program, the competition attracted 194 applications from 44 countries. Sunday Supper was one of just three companies selected overall and the sole winner in the category focused on reimagining convenient, high-quality everyday meals.
The collaboration combines Barilla’s nearly 150-year Italian heritage, culinary expertise and global innovation capabilities with Sunday Supper’s fresh perspective on premium frozen Italian comfort food.
The companies have launched an eight-week co-development initiative at Barilla’s global headquarters in Parma, Italy, exploring innovative product concepts, new eating occasions and the next generation of convenient Italian food.
“To be selected by Barilla is an extraordinary validation of what we’ve been building,” said Richard Klein, Co-Founder and Chief Brand & Product Officer of Sunday Supper. “Italian food has always been about pleasure, comfort, connection and bringing people together. We believe those qualities should be part of everyday eating, regardless of how much time someone has to prepare a meal. Exploring that vision alongside a company with Barilla’s heritage and global reach is incredibly exciting.”
Founded to elevate the frozen food aisle, Sunday Supper offers restaurant-quality Italian comfort foods, from lasagnas and contemporary pasta dishes to its growing FRITTO line of crispy Italian appetizers. The brand combines familiar Italian flavors, thoughtfully sourced ingredients and modern convenience, delivering premium meat-free meals without compromising taste.
Sunday Supper’s momentum has accelerated in 2026, with distribution expanding to more than 1,000 retail locations nationwide, including Whole Foods Market, Target and Sprouts Farmers Market.
“Consumers are fundamentally changing what they expect from frozen food,” said Spencer Oberg, CEO of Sunday Supper. “Convenience is no longer enough. They want exceptional quality, great ingredients and genuinely satisfying food. Our collaboration with Barilla allows us to explore new products, formats and occasions that could reach a much broader audience.”
Following the initial development phase, Sunday Supper will return to Parma in early 2027 to present the joint pilot project to Barilla leadership and explore opportunities for a longer-term collaboration.
“There’s something particularly meaningful about an American brand inspired by Italian food being invited to Parma to imagine what comes next,” Klein added. Working with Barilla gives us an incredible opportunity to explore just how far that idea can go.”
